Artist's rendering of Schuster Student Success CenterJoin us as we start celebrating 50 years -- and our future

Look for a crowd of CSU friends and alumni to gather Thursday as we officially begin our yearlong 50th anniversary celebration. Join us at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at the T.Y. Whitley Clock Tower for brief remarks, cake (of course!) and stick around for the 2 p.m. groundbreaking for CSU's newest building, the Schuster Student Success Center, left. You might be reminded of Columbus College's 1958 birth as some students, faculty and staff dress in 1950s attire.      more >

Two CSU cheerleaders at November 2007 gameHere's something to cheer about: a CSU national title
CSU cheerleaders represented the school well over the weekend at a national competition, its smaller squad finishing first among all coed teams representing NCAA Division II colleges and universities. The national title is the third in the last four tries for coach Jimbo Davis and his small coed squad after a third-place finish in 2007. The larger squad also excelled at the national championships in Florida, finishing second in its division category.       more >

Upcoming: Art auction, deadline, basketball, theatre, CSU Day, music, more
CSU's Alumni Association expects another crowd Friday for its annual Gala Art Exhibit and Auction at the Cunningham Center. Arrive at 7 p.m. Jan. 25 for hors d'oeuvres, wine and cheese at the preview and stay for the 8 p.m. auction. Tickets are $10.

Just a few days remain before the Jan. 31 deadline to nominate someone for the 2008 Dr. John Townsend Achievement Award, which will be presented Feb. 22 at CSU's annual Black Applause Banquet. You can nominate someone online and call Linda Elder at 706-565-3657 to purchase tickets to the 6:30 p.m. reception and 7:30 p.m. banquet.

Basketball fans still have plenty of opportunities to catch a game, either at CSU's Lumpkin Center, on the road or through a Webcast. You can check the men's basketball schedule, women's basketball schedule and the Webcast schedule online.

Prepare to laugh if you're able to make it to the 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31-Feb. 2 and 2 p.m. Feb. 3 staging of Fuddy Meers at CSU's Theatre on the Park in downtown Columbus. This adult-oriented farce focuses on an amnesiac trying to regain her memory amid a hodgepodge of bizarre characters.

CSU Day 2008, the annual quest  to tell CSU's story and thank area businesses and residents who support the university, isn't until March 27, but volunteers are already organized and ready to begin making calls in early February. Visit our CSU Day page for more details and, for the first time ever, you can make a quick credit card donation online to satisfy your CSU Day pledge.

For a full list of upcoming CSU events, visit our online calendar. CSU's School of Music calendar also features a very busy February, with more than 20 concerts and recitals on tap.
