Help celebrate our leader from 1988 to 2008 -- before he retires
CSU's 2008 President's Recognition Banquet promises to be special, and time runs out May 6 to make reservations. The Tuesday, May 13 reception and banquet combines CSU's 50th anniversary celebration and recognition of retiring President Frank D. Brown, who has led the institution from 1988 (far right) to 2008 (right). Make reservations for the Columbus Convention and Trade Center gala by buying tickets online or calling 706-565-4100.

Golf team, led by happy coach, heads to postseason competition
You would have to forgive CSU Golf Coach Mark Immelman for being a bit distracted this season. It's not every day your brother, Trevor Immelman, leaps into the international golf spotlight by winning the Masters. Nonetheless, CSU's Immelman has kept his team, including Andrew Georgiou, left, on track and headed into the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament. Both CSU men's and women's tennis teams are also involved in postseason play. more > |

CSU puts best foot forward for visiting Board of Regents
CSU knew it had a rare opportunity to make the Board of Regents aware of its progress and possibilities when the governing body of the University System of Georgia met April 15-16 at CSU as part of its twice-a-year effort to meet on campuses within the system. Muscogee County Teacher of the Year credits CSU education
Melissa Wilks offered CSU and its theatre education program a nod of appreciation May 1 when she was named Teacher of the Year for the Muscogee County School District. Columbus State "turned a desire to teach into an ability to teach," the 2001 CSU grad said after her honor was announced before a crowd of 750. Several other CSU graduates were finalists. A big fitness plus for future students
CSU's student body has given approval for the university to raise student fees to fund a $16 million, 70,000-square foot student recreation center. Board of Regents approval is expected. more >

 Enjoy a rare musical treat and honor two veteran CSU faculty
It's a bit of an understatement to say musical talent runs in the family for pianist Betty Anne and violinist Manuel Diaz, left, longtime Schwob School of Music faculty. Three of their children -- a violist, cellist and violinist -- will join other performers May 11 at the RiverCenter for the Diaz Benefit Scholarship Concert. Proceeds will fund a scholarship honoring the couple. more >

The new 128-page book, Enriching Lives: A Pictorial History of Columbus State University, is now for sale at the CSU Bookstore and you can also buy it online. Bet on a good time at the kickoff Emerging Leaders event
CSU's Cunningham Center for Leadership is hosting a hot young author, Ben Mezrich, left, as the featured guest to kick off its new Emerging Leaders series. Mezrich is the best-selling author of Bringing Down the House, a fictionalized account of how MIT students beat the blackjack system in Las Vegas. The book was adapted to become the recent hit movie, 21. Register now for this networking event catering to individuals ages 21-40, offered in conjunction with the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals group. more >
